Chicomoztoc

Chicomoztoc
In the Aztec Creation Legend the first of their race emerged from Chicomoztoc, the Cavern of the Seven Chambers, the place of refuge of the race during some period of natural disaster, possibly situated in Aztlan or alternatively somewhere to the north of Mexico. In the first case this would fit in with the story of their departure by boat for Mexico, bringing with them their chief god Huitzilopochtli. Whether the seven cities of Cibola can be integrated into this picture is not clear. It seems possible that Mictlan, the Aztec Hades, was derived from this, while the Tulan-Zuiva of the Quiches may well be the same place.
